I arrived in Zimbabwe for the first time in May last year for 2 weeks, and it had such an impact on me that I felt God call me back again in October – this time for 6 months! My main role was to ensure the smooth running of Jabulani Children’s home while Alan and Dorothy were in the States for a couple of months, and after that I simply helped out with whatever was needed! I loved living at Jabulani and the children were such a joy to be around (99% of the time!) I loved visiting the local schools with Alan and hearing God’s word taught in assemblies was a joy. There is a real openness to the gospel in Zimbabwe that I have seldom experienced before.
During my time in Harare I worshipped at Kingdom People Church. The friendly welcome and the love I received from the church made me feel right at home. I got involved in Rob and Margie Holland’s house group on a Wednesday night, and we covered a range of topics together. It was such a blessing to be able to discuss and share with like-minded people and those nights were a real encouragement to me.
It was also a privilege to be asked to lead praise and worship at Kingdom People. I am well used to leading worship usually twice each Sunday; but leading in a Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland is much different to leading in Kingdom People in Harare! But I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all and I believe the Holy Spirit really moved during those times of worship and surrender to Him.
I would like to thank everyone involved in Kingdom People for their kindness towards me during my stay in Zimbabwe. Special thanks should go to Rob and Margie Holland for their hospitality and support and, of course, to Alan and Dorothy Graham whose love and friendship I will treasure forever. I hope to be back in Harare in March/ April 2015 God willing so I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
